Stephen and I met while both working at Olive Garden in Logan Utah. I had been working there for a couple years and was graduating from Utah State in a week and then moving to Salt Lake to pursue a career in Social Work. Stephen had another year of his undergrad and was just looking for a summer job. He had just been hired a week earlier and was finishing his last day of training. It was a typical busy Friday night at work and once I got there I noticed Stephen right away. He was very attractive of course and I thought to myself, "dang, why do we have to hire such a hottie right when I am quitting." Well I went up to him and introduced myself as Jen C., also mentioning that there were three Jen's that work there but that he wouldn't need to remember me because it was one of my last days of work. For whatever reason we ended up flirting all night. At the end of the night he left and I hadn't asked for his number or anything. I knew I wanted to see him again and soon, so I went to the back room and checked the schedule to find his last name. I asked my good friend Zandra if it would be weird if I found him on Facebook. She of course told me it was the right thing to do. She is all about love stories and thought it was just the thing I needed. When I got home I looked for him on Facebook. All I knew was his name and that he was from Kaysville, Utah. I found someone that I thought could be him but his profile picture was of a motorcycle so I couldn't know for sure. This is what I messaged him anyway...
Hey! So this is Jen C. from work. I was going to get your number before you left but after my incident spilling oil all over Tyler and pissing him off I wasn't in the best mood. But it would be fun to go on a date or something soonish, that is if you don't have a girlfriend. And I am not ever this forward but I figure if you say no it will only be awkward at work for another two weeks. So let me know! Night
I sent that at 12:30 in the morning and then went to bed expecting to never get a reply. The next day my roommate and I went to the pool and I told her all about him and how adorable he seemed. While we were talking he messaged me back and said...
Haha i'm actually so happy you found me because to the best of my stalking abilities I couldn't find you... But I totally agree with you and screw karma for makin this only two weeks! What are you doing tonight?
Well I had to work that night so we decided to hang out that afternoon before I went to work, but that didn't work out either. So Stephen asked if I was up for doing anything after I got off work. I said Yes! I didn't get off work that night until 11:00, but I really wanted to hang out with him. So I lied about being to tired and the two of us, a buddy of his, and his date went Jeeping up Logan canyon. It was so much fun. It was while we were in the jeep that I reminded him that I was moving in two weeks. In that moment I honestly think we were just fine with making this a two week fling and then calling it quits. After Jeeping we watched a movie at his friends house and then he took me home. The next day was Sunday and surprisingly Stephen asked if we could hang out again. He wanted to take me on a motorcycle ride. I remember he needed to fill it up with a little gas first because his bike had kept dying. He couldn't get it started back up for about 20 minutes. I am pretty sure he was a little embarrassed but I thought it was pretty funny. We continued seeing each other every single day. On days we didn't have time to see each other we would still get together late and watch a movie at his grandmas house. I'm pretty sure I remember making a little fun of him for living with his grandma. A week after we met Stephen took me to the Symphony in Salt Lake and I was able to meet his entire family on our way there. We kind of interrupted a family BBQ and I got to awkwardly meet them after knowing Stephen for only a week. It was at the Symphony that I first pictured our lives together and knew I could fall in love with him. He held my hand that night and I remember him kissing me on the forehead while we were going down the escalator at the city creek mall. I remember he was so kind and sweet to me. After the symphony we drove up to a look out spot over Salt Lake. I knew I had met someone that I didn't want to lose after one more week. I thought it was crazy, just one week earlier I was at the pool with my roommate after just meeting Stephen the night before and I told her that I thought I was going to marry him. I even called my mom and told her I met such an amazing guy. At the time I'm sure I didn't think it was true, but looking back now maybe I did know from that first night that I met him that he would be the one for me.
Stephen and I continued seeing each other every day. When I had met him I had already set up to transfer to the Olive Garden in Salt Lake, I had already found a new apartment, and I had already started packing up a little. After knowing him for a week I knew I wanted to see if there was something there for us. So I awkwardly text him one night asking how weird he would feel it would be if I didn't move to Salt Lake. He was probably pretty weirded out but not enough I guess. He said it would be great if I stayed. So I found someone to take my new apartment in Salt Lake after just a day or two. I asked if I could continue working at Olive Garden in Logan and they said of course, and lastly Stephen and I continued seeing each other.
